My All Time Favourite Skincare Product

Hi, honey buns! 👋🏽

As you know, I’m super into my skincare and the whole day time/night time skin routine malarkey. I love coming home and taking the day off, using all these little magic skin products and snuggling down into bed. It’s amazing how skincare can make you feel like a luxurious fresh faced goddess, yano?

As a teenager, it did take me quite a while to get into the habit of removing my makeup properly, instead of just using a baby wipe or sleeping in my makeup I know – awful! But that was way before I started to notice that my wrinkles no longer disappeared when I kept a straight face. Since discovering my crows feet wrinkles and awful frown line, I have grown into a skincare obsessed creature with pots and potions everywhere. Cleansers, serums, lotions, tonics, toners and moisturisers – you name them, I’ve got them.

However, my favourite little skincare secret comes in a slightly different type of pot. Not the type you’d get from any beauty counter either, but straight from the garden centre!

The aloe vera’s squishy insides have been my secret little youth serum since I got my first plant, about two years ago. Seriously guys – if you haven’t tried this you need to!

If you’re imagining that I stand in my bathroom rubbing an aloe vera stalk into my face every other night, well…. you’d be right. Because that’s exactly what I do!

As we age, everyone begins to worry about the appearance of fine lines and the loss of elasticity in their skin. The aloe’s leaves contain a large amount of antioxidants including, beta carotene, vitamin C and vitamin E that can help improve the skin’s natural firmness and keep the skin hydrated. In fact, the ancient Egyptians called aloe veras the “plant of immortality”, because it really does help your skin to stay young and fresh.

Aloe Vera has been used for medicinal purposes for years, it’s properties help to heal sunburn by acting as a protective layer on the skin and helping to replenish its moisture. Because of its nutritional qualities and antioxidant properties, the skin heals quicker.

Not only that, aloe gel moisturises the skin without giving it a greasy feel, so it’s perfect for anyone with an oily skin complexion. You don’t have to worry about it breaking you out either, aloe actually treats acne! The aloe gel contains two hormones: Auxin and Gibberellins. These two hormones provide wound healing and anti-inflammatory properties that reduce skin inflammation. Giberellin in aloe vera acts as a growth hormone stimulating the growth of new skin cells, which allows the skin to heal quickly and naturally with minimal scarring. Yasssss!

Because aloe is so soothing, it can reduce skin inflammations, blistering and itchiness, while helping the skin to heal more rapidly. It can effectively heal chronic skin problems, such as psoriasis, acne and eczema. I always use this for my eczema, it really helps to take the itch away and gives a nice cooling sensation.

So not only is it one of the leading therapies for sunburns, but also the best acne cream, best moisturiser and the best wrinkle cream!

All 100% natural and home grown ❤️

I absolutely love aloe vera plants, I seriously recommend keeping one in the house. Especially if you suffer with eczema or acne!

Once your plant gets bigger, it will start growing “babies” too. You can propagate these and have a whole new plant like this little guy below:

Why don’t you check out some other reasons to keep an aloe vera plant in your house in my why you should own house plants post.

What do you think?

Love Charlie x

  1. Amazing post! I’m really struggling with my skin at the moment, I’ve also got every product under the sun and nothing seems to be working to get rid of my acne and prevent wrinkles…I will definitely be giving this a go. Hooray for natural skincare! 💗🌱

    1. I definitely recommend it! I have no end of plants now! Just make sure to cut the leaf right down at the bottom (the outer leaves are usually better as they’re thicker). You don’t need much gel but can store the rest in the fridge for a few days! ☺️👍🏽🌿

  2. I’ve lost touch with my skincare routine and so my skin has been suffering lately 😦 I definitely need to get back into one!

Aloe vera is SO SO good. We have a huge aloe vera plant at home, which is so useful and it can be used for so many different things, as well 😀
